Tummy Tuck Surgery

Abdominoplasty or “Tummy Tuck,” is a surgical procedure carried out to remove excess fat and skin and restore weakened or separated muscles . The overall effect is to produce an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer . The best candidate for this surgery has normal or excessive body weight, weak muscles and excess skin.

The typical patient who presents for tummy tuck is the patient who has lost considerable weight with diet and exercise and is unable to gain the definition in their abdomen that they desire.

Incisions

Dr. Chugay makes incisions deep within the bikini line, according to the style of bikini that the patient normally uses, to minimize scarring. The incision is made in the hairline, not above it, as it is commonly done by most surgeons. The technique utilized by other surgeons can often leave noticeable scars in the lower abdomen area.

On patients who do not have much excessive skin a short horizontal cut can be made and a procedure frequently referred to as a mini tuck can be performed.

Skin Lifting

Skin is lifted utilizing an electrocautery (“hot knife”). Many surgeons do it with a blade or scissors.

Reduction of “dog ears”

Frequently after a Traditional Tummy Tuck, small pockets of skin form at each end of the long horizontal incision used in the standard procedure. Such skin pockets, due to their appearance, are often referred to as “dog ears”. These “ears” have to be surgically reduced several months after Tummy Tuck when the healing is complete.

To avoid complications and a secondary procedure, Dr. Chugay has developed a method of reducing “dog ears” before they are formed. Sparing the unnecessary detail, this technique involves, after fully suturing the abdominal wall, going back to the incision site and re-excising additional amounts of skin at each end of the original incision. Such additional excision is elliptical in shape. The ends of the excisions are then sutured meticulously.

What is a “Mini Tummy Tuck”?

This rather confusing term simply means that your surgery will not have to be as extensive as the regular Tummy Tuck. This will be achieved by making the initial horizontal incision very small and completely hidden in the hairline, by not bringing the muscles together with stitches or by combining both of these features. The candidates for this procedure will have less hanging skin and little or no protrusion of the abdomen.

Postop

One should expect Severe swelling and bruising for approximately 2 weeks. Wearing a compression garment for 4-6 weeks will help with the recovery. Final results may not be evident for 3-6 months as swelling continues to resolve and incisions mature.

Liposuction Surgery

Introduced in the U.S. in the early 1980s, liposuction, also called liposculpture, lipoplasty, or suction lipectomy, is a cosmetic surgery technique developed by cosmetic surgeons to reduce stubborn fat deposits that don’t respond to dieting and exercise.

These fatty bulges are most commonly found in the thighs, hips, abdomen, buttocks, knees, ankles, calves and arms.

They are also found in the facial areas such as the chin, cheeks, jowls and neck. Liposuction can be performed alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic surgery procedures such as a Tummy Tuck, Facelift, Cheek Augmentation, Chin Augmentation to achieve the desired result.

The Procedure

Fat is surgically removed from various parts of the body using this process; After making small incisions in the areas to be suctioned, a cannula is inserted into the subcutaneous tissues and fat is aspirated into a special suction machine. A maximum aspirate in outpatient setting is 5L. There is a greater risk of complications for the patient with more aspirate.

The procedure takes between 1-2 hours, depending on the amount of area to be suctioned.

Post Op

It is common for there to be drainage for 48-72 hours post op from incisions. Patients should expect severe swelling and bruising for 1-2 weeks after surgery. The final results may not be evident for 6-12 months after surgery as residual swelling and contracture continue up to 1 year

*It should be noted that Liposuction surgery is not a treatment for obesity and is not a replacement for regular exercise and good eating habits.

Buttock Augmentation With Fat Grafting Surgery

A nice rounded butt is a goal shared by many who exercise countless hours on step machines or run up and down staircases. And yet, the buttock area is particularly resistant to change.

For those with stubborn, persistently flat buttocks there is finally a way to achieve a perfect butt. Dr. Chugay has developed a plastic surgery procedure, which will do for butt what breast augmentation did for breasts (and without the dire consequences some have found with certain breast implants).

Procedure

The fat grafting procedure uses the patient’s own fat, which is collected from one part of the body and injected into areas requiring volume or enhancement. The results are generally safe and long lasting with an average posative take of 60-70% (can be increased to 80-85% with stem cells). Sometimes the procedure needs to be repeated several times for best results.

Fat Grafting

Some time ago surgeons developed a procedure called “autologous fat grafting.” In layman’s terms, they took fat from one place in the body and injected it into the butt.

Unfortunately, unlike the stubborn naturally-occurring butt fat, the grafted fat did not stay in the buttocks. With time, over 60% of the injected fat would get absorbed by the body, requiring new and costly injections. Furthermore, this procedure did not produce firm buttocks; after all, fat is soft. Rather, it would produce a lumpy, cottage-cheese appearance to the butt.

Dr. Chugay, however, has recently begun using stem cells to augment the overall take of fat in the injected site. Using revolutionary stem cell technology, Dr. Chugay has increased the overall retention of fat injection from 40% to 80%. In a procedure that is performed in the operating room during your surgery, a biochemist will extract stem cells from your fat cells. These will then be combined with your fat cells and injected into the buttock region to give more fullness to the area.
